Sliced-Quilt Teil 4: Rosina Wachtmeister "Red Cheek"

Unser viertes Teil der Puzzlequilts steht kurz vor der Vollendung. Gestern kamen die beiden letzten Teile dazu, sodass der Quilt "nur" noch zusammengenäht werden muß.

Part four of our sliced quilts is almost finished. The last two pieces were done yesterday, now the pieces have just to joined to form the picture.

Bettina ist seit langem ein großer Fan von Rosina Wachtmeister und suchte sich in ihren gewohnt kräftigen Farben das Bild "Red Cheek" aus. Es wurde in neun gleich große Teile zerschnitten und verteilt und der Nähspaß konnte beginnen.

Die genähten Teile sind kaum von den gedruckten zu unterscheiden.

Bettina enjoys Rosina Wachtmeister's art very much. She chose the picture "Red Cheek" in the bold and bright colors she loves. The picture was cut into nine pieces for the puzzle.

Bettina nähte zwei Teile, da an diesem Projekt nur acht Zicken teilnahmen.

Beatrice arbeitete mit Wolle freihändig die Schnecken

Beatrice created her piece with wool and free-motion-stitching.

Anke verwandte einen Ihrer selbstgefärbten Stoffe.

Anke used one of her self-dyed fabrics.

Susi hat den unteren Teil der Sonne genäht.

Susanne stitched the lower rays of the sun.

Sabine hat das wohl ausdruckstärkste Teil genäht.

Sabine created the beautiful face of the sun.

Renate hat großzügig mit Wolle und Pailletten gearbeitet.

Renate worked with wool and sequins.

Kerstin hat die Sterne aufgehen lassen.

Kerstin let the stars rise in the night sky.

Ines hat neben Sternen noch Planeten umgesetzt.

Ines added stars and planets.

Noch sind die Teile nicht zusammengenäht, und es sieht schon super aus.

The pieces are not joined yet but the puzzle looks already great.

Die neun Teile sind zusammengenäht! Nach dem Quilten bekommt das Bild noch einen Rahmen und einen ganz besonderen Platz in Bettinas Haus.

Bettina already pieced the puzzle. Now it has to be quilted and will then be put into a frame to decorate a special place in Bettina's house.


Es sieht in "Natura" natürlich viel,viel schöner und farbgewaltiger aus. Es ist ca. 70 x 70 cm groß.

In reality the colors are much nicer and more intense. The picture measures about 28" square.

Sliced-Quilt Teil 3 - Eine Stadt für Ines

Jetzt wird es Zeit, dass sich auf unserem Blog wieder etwas tut. Ein dritter Sliced-Quilt, oder Puzzlequilt, ist geschafft.

After quite some time here is the next blog entry: our third sliced/puzzle quilt is done.

Ines hatte ein Bild von einem Oldtimer vorgegeben, das sehr monochrom war. Es stammte von einer Seite, auf der über die Dreharbeiten zum Film über die Bombennacht von Dresden berichtet wurde. Das Bild zeigen wir hier mit freundlicher Genehmigung des Bildinhabers:

Ines gave us a very neutral colored picture of a vintage car. She found it on a website describing the making of a movie on the bombing of Dresden in World War Two. The copyright holders kindly allowed us to post the picture here.

Nun hat ja Ines einen Faible für möglichst kunterbunte Farben und daher war die Vorgabe, dass jede ihren Puzzleteil möglichst bunt, schrill und vielleicht auch glitzernd umgesetzt werden sollte.

Ines loves bright and intense colors and asked us to make our puzzle pieces as colorful, flashy and maybe even sparkling as possible.

Kerstin hat sich schrille Pastellfarben ausgesucht und das Rad schön plastisch gestaltet.

Kerstin picked flashy pastel colors and made a three-dimensional wheel.

Beatrice hat schöne Eisfarben verwendet.

Beatrice used cool colors.

Bettina hat eher die orientalische Farbwahl bevorzugt. In Natura sehen die Farben viel kräftiger aus.

Bettina chose colors that look rather oriental and are much more intense than they look in the picture.

Und so sieht es schließlich aus, wenn alle Teile zusammen gelegt werden. Der Grundgedanke war ja, dass es an Werke von Andy Warhol erinnern sollte. Ob sich Herr Warhol nun geschmeichelt fühlt oder eher im Grabe dreht, wissen wir nicht, aber Ines gefällt es!

And this is how it looks when all pieces are put together. Ines's intention was to create a picture following the style of Andy Warhol. We don't know whether Andy would be flattered or rather appalled by our result, but Ines sure likes it!

Sliced-Quilt 2. Teil: Ein Baum für Kerstin

Heute wurde das Geheimnis gelüftet. Kerstin hat uns Vorlagen gegeben, auf denen verschiedene Baumteile sind. So richtige Vorstellungen von dem ganzen Bild hatte wohl keiner. Jetzt war alles klar - der Blick in die Krone einer mächtigen Eiche soll es sein.

Today was the big day: Part 2 of of our Sliced-Quilt-Project was due. Kerstin had given us pieces of a picture with a jumble of tree parts. We had not seen the whole picture, and none of us really had an idea what the whole picture would look like. First, we put the photo pieces together: it turned out to be a majestic oak tree.

Sliced Quilt, das neue Jahresprojekt

Nach unseren Fabric Books haben wir für die neue Saison eine neue Herausforderung:

Jede durfte sich ein Foto, Bild oder Skizze aussuchen und in so viele Teile schneiden, wie sich Teilnehmer bereit fanden. Sieben Zicken wagten die Herausforderung. Durch Los wurde entschieden, welches Puzzle zuerst genäht wurde. Das war Susannes Projekt: eine Pizza! Lediglich die Schablone des Stückes wurde verteilt, belegen durfte jeder nach eigenem Gusto.

Now that our fabric books are finished we found a new challenge for our group:

Every group member chose a picture or sketch and cut it into as many pieces as there are participants. Seven ladies accepted the challenge. Since we cannot sew all puzzles at once we drew numbers to decide the sewing order. Susanne's project was first: a pizza! She only gave each participant a template of a slice, everyone could choose their favorite toppings.


Dieses Wochenende in Wahlsdorf war nun Abgabe der einzelnen Stücke, und Susanne durfte sie fertig backen.

The finished slices were due this weekend at our quilt retreat, and Susanne could assemble a delicious pizza.

Oben rechts seht ihr Beatrices Pizza Mista mit Champignons, Peperoni, Salami und Oliven, weiter im Uhrzeigersinn Kerstins scharfes Stück mit 3-D Peperoni und 3-D Käse aus Tyvek (schön geschmolzen), dann Ines' Favorit belegt mit Spinat, Mozzarella und einer Knoblauch-Zehe, Ankes vegetarische Version mit Champignons und Broccoli, Susannes Teil mit Scampi, Bettinas Salami-Zwiebel-Pizza und links oben Renates Edel-Stück mit Artischocken, Mozzarella, Paprika, Oliven und Basilikum-Blättchen.

Na, läuft euch da nicht auch das Wasser im Mund zusammen?

Beatrice made pizza mista with mushrooms, hot peppers, salami and olives (top right, then continuing clockwise), Kerstin likes it hot with a three-dimensional hot pepper and three-dimensional melted cheese made from tyvek. Ines's favorite is spinach, mozzarella and a clove of garlic, Anke prefers vegetarian pizza with mushrooms and broccoli and Susanne herself put three-dimensional scampi on her slice. Bettina likes salami and onions, and Renate only used the finest ingredients like artichokes, mozzarella, sweet peppers, olives and basil leaves.

Doesn't that look good enough to eat?
